Initiatives

The MTP was founded during the years 2010 and 2011 under the allocation of funds from the European Commission to the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM) as the Mexican coordination partner of the European Support Action FIRST Consortium. One of its key objectives was to create means of international cooperation and reliable knowledge structures that would enable effective means to link actors of socioeconomic ecosystems in the regions of Mexico where innovation is carried out with stakeholders from other countries through the vehicle of Technology Platforms, in order to identify open opportunities for entrepreneurs, researchers and companies in Mexico that can participate competitively in international markets. The LATP model was adopted and refined by the MTP through Project CONECTA 2020, sharing, enriching, and opening tangible opportunities for cooperation with Europe and Latin America.

The MPT applied open innovation methodologies KMSME Living Lab that served as the basis for the processes of calling and co-creating PTM deliverables related to its internal functions and with the different initiatives of the iCluster project (eg, knowledge networks, strategic innovation agenda, Smart City agenda, data mapping, etc.).
MTP was responsible for the execution of the three phases of the Project iCluster during the period 2013-2018, supported by the IT clusters of Mexico (mxTI) in the formation of expert groups at a national level and the definition of innovation lines that influenced the different initiatives of the iCluster project. It carried out the call for Public-Private Partnerships, promoting interaction with government organizations, academia and industry, linking them both in the physical and virtual realms under an approach oriented to entrepreneurship and innovation and managed based on the open innovation methodologies of the KMSME Living Lab.

The MTP evolution during the period 2011-2018 responds to social and global trade challenges, adopting international reference frameworks to promote innovation and adapting them to the local characteristics of the Mexican socioeconomic environment. This is evidenced in the evolution of the MTP Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda. The 2011 Agenda was a deliverable of the FIRST Project and the 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 Agendas were part of Project CONNECT 2020 deliverables.

As of 2010, the MTP established nine Thematic Work Groups (TWGs), regrouped in 2016 into four TWGs, defining their national research lines and international cooperation priorities.
