Initiatives
Porter´s methodology is not public, it was used as a reference that defines the inputs and outputs of the data model defined by the iCluster Ecosystem. The iCluster Project received direct support from the Institute of Strategy and Competitiveness (ISC) of the Harvard University Business School through the link with the Economic Development Agency (EDA) of the United States Department of Commerce in support of the DEAN and MUSEIC collaboration.
Porter´s methodology divides companies into two types: local and trade. The fundamental difference lies in the market each serves. While the local ones sell within the borders of the country, trade clusters produce inside but take their products or services to different latitudes outside the national territory.
The data mapping methodology uses the Porter, Stern and Delgado cluster definitions that relate the two cluster types mentioned above with the North American economic activity classes: United States, Mexico, and Canada.
